Spring clean for Sodbury as season starts

Members have turned our in force to get Chipping Sodbury Cricket Club ready for the new season. Both the wickets and the pavilion were subject to scrutiny to get the club ready for the new season that starts this month.

Chairman Andy Shield said, “It was good to see so many members from across the club turning up and doing their bit to help. There’s great enthusiasm for the start of the new season and we’re looking forward to a good summer for all our sides.”
The first XI, under the captaincy of Jamie Rendell, open up with a home WEPL Gloucester division clash with Woodmancote on May 7 and will then entertain Stroud on May 21.
The seconds, led once again by Jerry Swatton, are this season playing in Division Three of the Gloucestershire County League. They host Lechlade on May 14 and Shurdington on May 28.
Steve Febry is the new captain of Sodbury thirds who now find themselves in Division Seven of the hugely expanded Bristol & District League. They get underway at The Ridings against Bath on May 7 and welcome Bedminster on May 21.
Sodbury fourths with Damien Frodsham at the helm, are now in Division Eleven and their home games in May are against Failand & Portbury (14th) and Keynsham (May 28th).
Veteran Richard Dean once again skippers Chipping Sodbury’s fifth team, in Division 16, and they get underway with a home date against St Mary Redcliffe on May 7 before welcoming Bristol YMCA on May 21. Their home games are staged at Hillesley CC.
Sodbury’s Sunday XI, captained by Tom Febry, have three successive home friendlies in May against Travellers (1st), Cheltenham Civil Service (8th) and Winterbourne (15th).
They then welcome Winterbourne back the following weekend (22nd) for a county cup game before entertaining Painswick on May 29 on the opening weekend of action in Division Two of the Village League.
The Club are eager to hear from new players.
