THE first affordable homes on the Barnhill Quarry site in Chipping Sodbury are set to be completed in the summer.
Merlin Housing Society is providing 17 houses and five flats in a link-up with developer Bloor Homes.
They will be located less than a mile from Merlin’s head office as part of the quarry development of 160 homes - and the Waitrose supermarket that has already been operating for 17 months.
The £3 million affordable homes scheme includes two flats and three houses for shared ownership, giving first time buyers the chance to own 40 per cent of their own home and get a foot on the property ladder. The other 17 properties will be available for social rent.
They will be completed during a number of phases between this year and 2017, with Merlin revealing the first are anticipated to be finished this summer.
The housing association aims to build more than 200 new homes within a 20-mile radius of its headquarters in Bowling Hill, Chipping Sodbury, by the end of this year.
Its head of development, Michelle Thomas, said finding good quality, affordable accommodation in in Chipping Sodbury was difficult.
She said: “We’re really pleased to be working with Bloor to build much-needed social rent and shared ownership homes.”
