Perfect conditions greeted the finals of the annual Sodbury Tennis Club tournament. Hot sunshine was the order of the day allowing for a competitive day amongst club members, as Steph Gold reports.
With partnerships in the doubles competition drawn randomly (well, almost!) the tournament was once again as fun as it was competitive.
The first final of the day, the ladies doubles, saw Caroline Marshall and Sarah Mackrill come from a break down early on to close out in straight sets.  The men’s final was then won by Pete Hayden and Lee Griffiths, also in straight sets, after they stole the first set in a tie-break.
Then it was time for some singles action. In a repeat of the 2014 ladies final, Caroline Marshall fought back from a set down against Ann Mora to take the title once again. In the men’s singles, Ashley Todd made up for the disappointment of finishing as runner-up in 2013 with an impressive win over Harry Coulthard, in the same week as he celebrated his birthday.
And finally, with just about enough daylight left to complete the day’s action, the mixed doubles saw Caroline Marshall, this time partnered by Matt Crouch, clean-up and complete a hat trick of wins by taking the mixed doubles title.
As always, the event was well supported and the spectators enjoyed not only a great day of entertaining, competitive tennis, but the added bonus of sunshine (and lots of cake too).
