Tennis youngsters make their mark

Rising Sodbury Tennis Club Junior star Joshua Sillick tho win in the final of the Yeovil Tennis grade 4 12U Tournament at County Level.

Rising Sodbury Tennis Club Junior star Joshua Sillick tho win in the final of the Yeovil Tennis grade 4 12U Tournament at County Level. 

Intent on building on his success following straight set victories in the previous two rounds of the competition, Joshua took his positive play to the final. 

Joshua faced the number one seed in the final and his determination to finish strongly secured a convincing 4-2, 4-0 victory and an overall tournament win. He now hopes to build on his success by entering further competitions this year. 

Playing the Fast4 Format with short sets, Joshua won his first round tie 4-2, 4-3 overcoming the very warm conditions to progress into he semi-finals. His next challenger proved to be slightly more testing with the first set decided on a tie- break. Coming from 0-3 down Joshua took the tie-break 4-3 and remaining focused took the second set comfortably 4-1. 

Sodbury Tennis Club enjoyed further success when the 18U Girls finished in first place in Division One of the Aegon Girls Team Tennis Competition. 

The team of Beth Hardy, Katie Sillick, Abi Matthews and Eleanor Finch competed against five other teams from clubs in the area and won the league. The girls all achieved rating points to help further their tennis.
