THE team responsible for floral displays around Yate Heritage Centre and the green are celebrating winning a high level award in the South West in Bloom challenge.
Hard work by the centre’s Friends group resulted in a display of plants and flowers that were much admired.
Now their efforts have been rewarded with a coveted Outstanding award in the category It’s Your Neighbourhood.
The assessor from the Royal Horticultural Society praised the volunteers’ team work and community spirit, saying they had worked hard for a long period to improve and maintain the garden areas of the site, donating many plants themselves.
Displays have been developed since 2011, with garden plants initially used to attract and improve wildlife.
But since 2012 lavender and borage has been planted for use in both Roman and Tudor school and education sessions at the centre.
