Tributes paid to Dodington councillor

October 02 2018

Tributes have been paid to Gloria Stephen, the Liberal Democrat ward councillor for Dodington who has died.

Chipping Sodbury Councillor Linda Boon, who had been a friend of Gloria for many years, said: “Gloria was a good egg who fought for the things that she thought should happen. She was very determined, the sort of person that every community needs. She gave up her time to help others and will be greatly missed by many.”

Cllr Claire Young, Leader of the Liberal Democrat group on South Gloucestershire Council, said: “We are all deeply saddened by the loss of our friend and colleague Gloria. She will be very much missed in Dodington, where she had been at the heart of the community for so long.”

She continued: “Gloria served local people as a Dodington Parish Councillor for more than 20 years, including as Chair and Vice-Chair, and we were delighted when in 2015 she was elected to carry on that work on South Gloucestershire Council. She had been a School Governor, Chair of the Tourist Information Centre and a volunteer with Raysfield Youth Club, Avon Wildlife Trust and Wapley Bushes Conservation Group and a whole host of other community groups.”

Fellow Dodington Parish Councillor Paul Hulbert said: “Gloria was always thoughtful, enthusiastic and a pleasure to work with. We will really miss her.”
