Two Yate primary schools among most popular in South Gloucestershire

TWO Yate schools are among the 10 most oversubscribed in South Gloucestershire, new figures have revealed.

Broadway Infant School in Broadway had more than two applications for each place and St Mary's C of E Primary in Church Road had three times as many applications as places for its next intake.

Broadway had 159 applications for the 60 places offered to reception pupils in September this year, while St Mary's had 137 applications for 45 places.

Some of those applications put the schools as second or third choice and those parents who did not get a place at Broadway or St Mary's have all been offered places elsewhere.

Beacon Rise primary in Kingswood topped the list of the most oversubscribed schools in South Gloucestershire: a total of 288 parents put the school in their top three preferences for their sons and daughters to join from September 2019, but it had just 90 available places.

Blackhorse primary school in Emersons Green is ranked second, with Stanbridge primary school, Downend, third.

Emersons Green and Bradley Stoke primary schools make up the rest of the five toughest schools to gain a place.

The Voice reported earlier this month that 9 out of 10 families had secured their first-choice school in South Gloucestershire — a total of 2,864.

Six per cent (178 children) got into their second preference, while one per cent (26 youngsters) received their third.

No children missed out on being allocated a place to start primary school later this year, the authority’s data showed.
