VIP Voluntees thanked for their dedication to open spaces

DOZENS of volunteers have been thanked for their efforts in helping to maintain nature reserves, parks and rights of way in South Gloucestershire.
About 70 people who are involved in conservation groups, heritage sites, friends’ organisations, litter picking and individual Britain in Bloom teams were praised for their dedication and “invaluable” work.
They included volunteers from Yate, Sodbury and the Frome Valley area, who were invited to a celebration event at Winterbourne’s medieval barn.
It was hosted by South Gloucestershire’s Community Spaces Network and held to coincide with the nationally organised Volunteers’ Week.
Erica Williams, chairwoman of South Gloucestershire Council, said: “It was great to have an opportunity to officially thank these volunteers for the huge contribution they make to our parks and open spaces.
“Their hard work and commitment ensures we can all enjoy the best of what our beautiful area has to offer.”
During the event, the VIPs learnt about the history of the barn and future plans for the structure.
They also walked to nearby Monks Pool nature reserve with members of the Avon Bat Group, where they had the chance to look out for bats.
