A FOOTBRIDGE in Wapley is back in use after work was completed to prepare it for the electrifi cation of the railway beneath it.
Sergeant’s Farm bridge links Shire Way, Yate, with Wapley Common and Wapley Bushes nature reserve.
Its height had to be raised to make room for the overhead lines which will power new trains. Network Rail, which produced a time-lapse film to show the work involved in the project, said the electrifi cation programme would allow a new fl eet of longer, faster, quieter and greener electric trains to serve passengers travelling between the Bristol area, London and Cardiff.
