Where roads will close in Yate and Chipping Sodbury for jubilee street parties

STREET parties will take place in roads across the Yate and Sodbury area over the Queen's Platinum Jubilee weekend.

South Gloucestershire Council has published a list of almost 100 closures approved across the district so that residents can organise their own parties.

Events range from large-scale events like the Chipping Sodbury Big Jubilee Lunch to parties for neighbours to celebrate together outside their homes.

At the Chipping Sodbury event, on June 5 from noon to 6pm, families are invited to bring picnics, tables and chairs to watch live bands and dancing, entertainers and activities in Broad Street. There will be a children's fancy dress competition and baking contest.

The first event in Yate is a beacon lighting ceremony at Tyler's Field, off Gravel Hill Road, from 8pm on Thursday June 2. The beacon will be lit at at 9.45pm.

In Yate, on Friday June 3 there will be a Platinum Jubilee event on St Mary’s Green from 10.30am-4pm, with music and storytelling, stalls and food themed from the 1950s and 1970s. 

The beach at Yate Shopping Centre will host a children’s craft day on June 2, a steel band on June 3, wartime music on June 4 and a children's party on June 5.

Elsewhere in the district, Thornbury High Street will host a party on Friday June 3 with live music and displays of vintage cars and tractors.

On the same day an RAF Battle of Britain Memorial Flight flypast at around 2.30pm will be a highlights of celebrations at Warmley Forest Park.

Page Park in Staple Hill hosts a free party on Saturday June 4, from 11am until 5pm.

In the Yate and Sodbury area, eight road closures have been advised for street parties over the weekend, including:

Friday June 3:

Stanshawes Crescent, Yate, 2-10pm between the Nailsworth Avenue and Priors Lea junctions.

Saturday June 4:

Mow Barton, Yate, midday-10pm, from number 21 to far end.

Sunday June 5:

Churchill Gardens, Yate, 11am-4pm, between numbers 11 and 19.

Broad Street, Chipping Sodbury (Chipping Sodbury Jubilee Big Lunch), 9am-7pm, between the Wickwar Road and Hatters Lane junctions.

High Street, Hawkesbury Upton, 1-7pm between the Park Street junction and the Beaufort Arms/village hall.

Gathorne Crescent, Yate, midday to midnight, between numbers 25 and 35.

High Street, Badminton, 9am-9pm, for the entire length of the street.

Moordell Close, Yate, 9am-4pm, the entire road.

Drivers are being advised to avoid the roads for the duration of the closure orders, which may be in place for longer than street parties are taking place.
