Friday 5th June  The Pasadena Roof Orchestra
Formed in 1969, the acclaimed twelve-piece show band The Pasadena Roof Orchestra, or PRO, specialises in stylish versions of ‘20s, ‘30s and ‘40s early swing and hot jazz classics. For forty years the Pasadena Roof Orchestra has delighted audiences all over the world with its mix of swing and dance music. During the show you can expect to hear the music of Louis Armstrong, Bing Crosby, Fred Astaire, Duke Ellington, Ray Noble, Jack Hylton, Paul Whiteman, Bix Beiderbecke and many more. Though their music is set in the early 1900s, in recent years the band has also worked with contemporary stars such as Robbie Williams and Bryan Ferry.
Saturday 6th June The Pee Wee Ellis Assembly
One of the founding fathers of funk music and a major figure of 20th-century popular music and dance, James Brown is often referred to as “The Godfather of Soul”. American saxophonist, composer and arranger Alfred “Pee Wee” Ellis was an important member of James Brown’s band. Playing alongside trombonist Fred Wesley, Pee Wee Ellis created one of the greatest horn sections in James Brown’s career.  Pee Wee played with the James Brown Revue from 1965 to 1969 and arranged and co-wrote hits like “Cold Sweat” and “Say It Loud - I’m Black and I’m Proud”.
An immensely versatile artist, Pee Wee enjoys anything from funk to swing. He has been Van Morrisons musical director for 19 years and, since settling in the UK, he performs and teaches all over the world. More recently he has also been touring with the Ginger Baker Jazz Confusion.
The Pee Wee Ellis Assembly has worked consistently since 1992 and will be bringing a very special guest singer to Chipping Sodbury.  Soul, funk & blues songstress Lizzie Deane has a deeply soulful voice that emulates the sweet melodic and raw belting lines associated with the classic divas. Aside from Pee Wee Ellis, she has performed and toured with many highly-acclaimed artists including Mica Paris, Brenda Holloway, Sam Moore,  Jocelyn Brown, Boy George and Belinda Carlisle,
Tickets for both events are  £25 & £22.50 and can be ordered from the Ticket Hotline 01454 334410 or on the website www.sodburyjazzandblues.com
The full Festival programme will be published in the May issue of Yate and Sodbury Voice or you can check this out online at the event web site.
