Woodchester playground gets an upgrade
THE playground at Yate’s Woodchester Park is currently being upgraded, with some new equipment already in place.
The recreational area between homes on Woodchester, Maisemore, Blaisdon and Bredon has two new combination goal and basketball hoops, and the toddler play area is to get a new play unit, swings, a playhouse and spring toys.
The two sections were prioritised because the equipment was the oldest on the site. The junior play area will also be upgraded but at a later date.
Most of the funding for the project has come from a legal agreement with the developers of the former care home in Kelston Close. The money was earmarked by South Gloucestershire Council for facilities for children and young people.
Dodington Parish Council has commissioned the upgrade, after taking on the lease of the play areas from South Gloucestershire Council a year ago.
A consultation was carried out last year so that local residents could be involved with the changes.
Dodington Parish Council clerk Hannah Saunders said: “Members of Dodington Parish Council are delighted that work has started at the play area and are pleased with the progress made so far.”
The work has been done by Wicksteed Leisure, which was chosen after parish councillors had considered several bids.
