Yate sailor Mark Austen has helmed his boat to a silver medal at the Blind Fleet Racing Open World Championships, beaten only by the other British boat in a tight finish.

At the event on Lake Michigan in America, Great Britain won gold and silver in the B3 Fleet. There were 17 races throughout the five days of racing.

Austen from Yate said; “teams GB 3 and GB 4 had dominated the racing in the B3 fleet for all of the race days. At the beginning of the last race on the last day we were tied for first place. GB 3 took advantage of wind shift on the left hand side of the lake and finished less than a boat length ahead of my boat. We were sailing against the best in the world. I’m so proud of what my crew and I achieved. We’ve only been sailing together as a unit for four months.”
