Yate school takes learning outside
A YATE primary school is sending children out of class – to have more fun outdoors.
St Paul's Catholic Primary School in Sundridge Park worked over the summer to give pupils more opportunities for working and playing outdoors as part of its covid recovery strategy.
The school has updated its Key Stage One playground with new fitness trails and activities for both structured lessons and free play during break times.
Head teacher Maxine Sewell said: "We are developing an outdoor classroom (pictured below) as a base for forest school activities and also a space for quiet reflection.
"The logs in the log circle are repurposed from trees that had to be taken down in the school in the summer.
"Most of all we are excited about the installation of an all-weather permanent outdoor table tennis table (pictured above). This was donated and installed by a former member of staff.
"We are extremely grateful for this generous gift to the school. It’s a wonderful resource that few other schools have access to and is a wonderful addition to our outdoor provision.”
