Yate take first victory of season
Yate travelled to Hereford looking for their first points of the season and came away with a convincing victory.
Hereford 1 - 3 Yate
The hosts started strongly but it was Yate that made the more threatening attacks with Chris Gay and Matt Child driving down the right wing.
The first penalty corner for Yate was expertly converted by Dom Chambers as he moved around the high defenders and blasted the ball past the diving keeper. The lead was then doubled as Yate’s short passing game started to work well, Matt Bethell scored to make it 0-2.
Yate then relaxed a little and some sloppy long passes gifted possession to Hereford who scored when an attack through the middle of the pitch was converted.
The second half started in a similar vein with Yate playing unsuccessful long balls but they quickly tightened their play and with Tom Griffiths defending the left side and Tom Brock making a great first team debut defending and attacking on the right, Yate settled themselves and played some of their best hockey of the season.
A quick attack by Elliott Lawrence saw his initial shot blocked but the ball fell to Matt Bethell who scored to give Yate a 3 to 1 lead.
Yate Hockey club run two mens teams, 3 ladies teams and their junior hockey set up caters for all ages for boys and girls.
